ISRO to launch its version of Google Earth and GPS Services

Behold, another entrant to the maps and GPS arena. ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) is tipped to launch a free web based mapping and GPS service called Bhuvan (Sanskrit for Earth). The resolution of the ISRO service is said to be 10 meters ( compared to what google earth's 200 meters)

Once this becomes a reality, it will create great new business opportunities in the subcontinent. Vast amounts of positioning data will suddenly become available on the Indian subcontinent, creating great commercial possibilities similar to the situation in mid 90s in the US.
